DailyPhotos > Christine  > Smugmug Galleries > Photo a Day (Project 365) > Photo a Day Project 2009

A Photo a Day (also known as Project 365) - What is it?? It's exactly what the name implies - a photo is posted each and every day for a full year. You can choose to impose whatever rules or criteria you wish- some photographers insist that the photo be taken the same day it's posted, others will post an older photo that they "Photoshop" the day they post it, and still others don't impose any rules at all. My goal for this project is to take several photos every day and choose the best from that day to post. I have been able to stick to it for the most part (with one or two exceptions so far). I carry my Nikon D300 wherever I go- it's now like one of my limbs. It's one of the most challenging things I've ever committed to doing but so far it's been well worth it. If you've got a minute to spare, go ahead and hit the slideshow button. And don't be shy about giving a photo a “thumbs up” or even commenting if you see something you like. :D

Lastly, for those visitors that aren't members of Smugmug, the photos posted to this gallery are critiqued by photographers that belong to the "Daily Community". If you click on the "DailyPhotos" link above (it's next to my name), you will be taken to a gallery with photos posted by other the members. There's a lot of beautiful work out there.... you can get lost for hours.

Christine > Day 34 (alternate): Snow again.
February 3, 2009
It snowed all day while I was at work. I had to clean my car before going home, which I hate. I'm getting really tired of winter this year, but using my bulb setting after dark made for an interesting photo. I used a shutter speed of about a minute and a half. :)
Christine > Day 35: Pears in black & white
February 4, 2009
I took this photo the same day I posted the pears on day 30. I used Photoshop to make it black and white. It's too cold to go outside and neither cat is being compliant so I have to resort to posting pears again. :)
Christine > Day 36: Self Portrait
February 5, 2009
I hate having my picture taken. I mean really hate it. I see so many self portraits on Smugmug and think to myself that someday maybe I'll post one. Someday. I was lying on my couch watching a special on the Mamas and the Papas with the hubs when it struck me to take a photo of myself watching TV. Nothing earth shattering, just a pair of feet with Mama Cass in the background.
Christine > Day 37: Friends at a Passion Party
February 6, 2009
I went to a "Passion Party" with a bunch of friends and co-workers tonight. If you don't know what that is, you probably won't appreciate an explanation for it. I got many shots- great ones - but unfortunately due to the subject matter I didn't post them for fear of offending anyone. The two girls on the left are two of my favorite people and the girl on the right is a pistol! I've met her only a couple of times but tonight she was hysterical- all over the camera posing and goofing around. Loved her! What a fun and naughty night. ;) For those of you that are sure they won't be offended, the photo I REALLY wanted to be the photo of the day is this:

Christine > Day 40: Self Portrait #2
February 9, 2009
Here I am at my "crack shack" (Starbucks). I gave up coffee many months ago but once in awhile I allow myself the indulgence. As long as I'm not getting headaches on days I don't drink it, I'm alright with an occasional sneak. I just don't want to be a slave to caffeine (waking up but not really being "with it" until the first sip) and I'm glad I'm no longer addicted to it. But it kills me because I really, really love it. Cappucino, espresso, dark roast, and my new favorite: "Pumpkin Spiced Latte". Turns out there are only 200 calories if you opt for skim milk and skip the whipped cream. Not too bad, really. It tasted so good this afternoon - I was THIS CLOSE to retrieving the combinaion cappucino/espresso/coffee maker from storage. Just the smell gets me. I had a cup on Saturday morning with Ken too at a local coffee house that had live music. What could be better than that?? OK- enough reliving the moment. I'll have to wait at least a week to have another. Wish me luck. I'm really starting to enjoy this 365 project. I used to feel self conscious carrying my camera everywhere I went but now I feel free to whip it out anywhere and my confidence has increased significantly. Now if only I had the time to pimp my Smugmug site. I have designed many websites for myself and others but I just can't seem to find the time to create a home page and a separate page with my galleries. Maybe this weekend. :)
Christine > Day 41: Bullrush
February 10, 2009
Not much to say about this one... my husband thinks it's called "bullrush" so I'm going with that. It reminds me of the beach.
Christine > Day 42: Old White Church
February 11, 2009
I was raised Roman Catholic and the church my family attended in my youth was an old post and beam structure with dark wood, beautiful stained glass windows and a simple, modest interior. I loved it. When I reached my teens, they renovated the church and made it a typical RC church with lots of gold, candles everywhere and statues in every corner. And lets not forget the gi-normous gold crucifix with Jesus nailed to it hanging front and center. It was all very ornate- almost gawdy. Personally I liked the old church. To this day, whenever Ken and I drive pass a beautiful church, usually really old and completely white, it brings me back to my old church- that simple, modest building. Ken is a bit jaded (his family left the RC church when he was a child and became Protestant) so whenever I point to one of these old white structures and ask what denomination it is- he says "Not Catholic! There isn't enough gold on it!". He has a problem with the amount of money put into material objects and is a bit of a snob about being a Protestant. Me? I just love old post and beam buildings. I have been driving past this beautiful church for over 7 years. Today was warm and beautiful and the sky was a vibrant blue. I decided to stop by the church and photograph it during my lunch break. On the way back to my car, I noticed a plaque with my father's name on it ("in memory of Walter"). My dad, of course, was very proud to be Catholic and would be very intolerant of my husband's opinion which is why seeing his name seemed so ironic. I just had to photograph it. I used some round dried up "leaves" (for lack of a better word) to cover up the dates since my dad was not born in 1910. Strangely though, he did die in 1988.
